Hi, I am from Malaysia, home to the best durians in the world. Just a little update on what you guys are eating. If I am not mistaken what you people eating are durians from Thailand. Durians from Thailand are not tree ripened, that is , they are cut down green and forced ripe. In Malaysia, all our durians are ripened on the trees, that is, it will fall down from the branches and we picked them up . The taste and aroma is very vastly different, So is the texture. Malaysians durians cannot be kept and has to be eaten fresh to get the best out of it. You don’t get our durians because they cannot ‘keep’. They will split open itself and will go rancid if not eaten. It is a natural process. If anyone has the opportunity to come to Malaysia, a durian’s haven for durian connoisseur, you will never regret it. Durian here is seasonal. It is good to see so many appreciative of one of nature’s finest fruit. Thank you.

You totally made false information here. Durian is Thai fruit and it’s basically Thai word. Here we call it Durian. There are several grades of Durian and it’s an industry here in Thailand. Just like other fruit such as mango, orange and apple, Durian will be cut from the tree when harvest. A cut Durian will ripe in a few days. We just need to avoid cutting it before time. Too young Durian will not be ripe after cut. No one will eat Durian falling from the tree. That will be too much ripe. Do you eat mango or apple after they fall down from the tree? That’s stupid.

durian comes from indonesia archipelago. its name comes from duri , means spike, and ‘an’ , which just like english add on words like spikey. the ‘an’ is used as the -y in spike-y to explain its nature appearances. we have also another fruit that got the name from our language which is Rambutan ( you can google it ) , rambut means hair, and an ‘an’ for addition to explain a friut with hair on its skin. which literally means hairy fruit. and that explain durian means spiky fruit.
even latin name for durian is durio. with the duri mean spike. its Indonesian language. just to make clear.
so theres no way durian originated from thailand.
and also, Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia is nick named ‘The Big Durian’.
